Pizhichil

Pizhichil is a more intensive relative of Abhyanga — a much larger, continuous volume of warm medicated oil poured and massaged over the entire body by two therapists working in a coordinated, rhythmic sequence.

How Pizhichil works

Warm oil is continuously poured from cloth or a vessel while therapists massage it into the body in synchronised strokes, for 60-90 minutes depending on the condition being treated. It's typically reserved for more serious conditions — chronic pain, rheumatic conditions, or post-stroke/paralysis recovery — rather than used as routine relaxation.

How is Pizhichil different from Abhyanga?

Pizhichil uses a far larger, continuous volume of oil and is more intensive — generally prescribed for more serious chronic conditions rather than general wellness.

Is Pizhichil used for paralysis recovery?

Yes, it's a classical therapy for post-stroke and paralysis rehabilitation, typically as part of a longer, physiotherapy-integrated programme.

How many therapists are involved?

Typically two, working in coordinated rhythm to maintain a continuous, even application of oil.
